How To Change Kennel Club Ownership

Not logged in Champdogs Information Exchange

Hi all,

I have a litter and when trying to register them I've had a response from KC saying that because the dam is in joint ownership but my affix is solely mine, they cannot register the litter. I understand the reasoning for it but can they not request permission from the other 'owner'? I've spend 5 days (over 100 attempts and 2 hours on hold), finally spoke to someone and the call dropped out and they didn't call me back. Do I need to fill out a change of ownership form for this? I'm losing my mind, one puppy has already gone off to her new home without papers. registration took a long time to hear back about and now I can't progress until this is fixed. I'm so frustrated, I know everyone needs a break hence the closure over Xmas and the lockdown but surely the new site could be more intuitive and have a function for approval for this kind of thing. It's just so inefficient.

All advice appreciated
R

My take on that is you can not register the puppies with your Kennel Name(used to be affix/suffix/prefix), as it is not held by the 2 people who own the dam.  I know some have transferred the bitch to their own name, in order for the puppies to have a Kennel name, or the Kennel name is in separate or joint ownership. Maybe someone who has been in this situation can advise you more.  I would have thought you would have needed to have done something about this before, knowing who owned the affix & bitch??

Thank you for your reply. Sorry, I didn't explain very well. The other owner (and breeder) says she had transferred her over so not sure why she's showing in both our accounts. Thought it was all sorted but I've just not noticed that she was still in both names, my fault entirely. I just want to put her in my name, the other owner sent an email requesting to be removed as owner about 3 weeks ago, as she was under the impression that was what she had requested initially. I just can't get anywhere, emails are not responded to and lines are so busy I can't even get in the queue.

Moonbroch:  Litter Registration Problems>

Did you try to do the Registration on line?  You can complete the correct change of ownership form this way too.

Despite having your sole affix, if the damn's ownership is joint names then both parties must agree to the registration taking place.
You will have to complete a new form stating sole ownership in your name only and pay the fee for such. The KC will not do it for you.
Only then can you re-apply for the registration of the Litter.

The site has also had a complete overhaul of it's systems resulting in further backlog.  Things that used to take 4 weeks now take
8 and calling takes hours as you have expressed.  Just the way things are at present in most walks of life.  Good Luck.

It isn't a case of requesting to be removed, you as the new owner would need to do the change of ownership and pay the transfer fee as you would when buying a new dog the other owner would need to sign the pedigree form to agree to this transfer. If that has been submitted but not actioned then it is a case of trying to contact someone at the registrations department unfortunately. If not already submitted I think the puppies will have to be named without a kennel name and in both of your names  due to them being born while the dam was still owned by you both

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do now. The mother should either have been transferred to your sole name before she whelped, or you should have applied for loan of bitch prior to mating. The breeder is the registered owner at the time the pups are born so you can only register these puppies as jointly bred by you and the other person, with no kennel name used. You could possibly grant the other person a share in your kennel name but I don't know enough about how that works.

Oh and if the other person bred both the parents of the litter, then if all the pups are transferred to them they can add their kennel name to the FRONT of each puppy's name. To use your own kennel name in any way the only way you can do it is by registering the pups, jointly bred with no kennel name, name the pups with at least two words so that there will be no admin prefix added, transfer them all into your sole ownership and then add your kennel name to the END of each name. Quite costly as it would mean paying for transfer plus addition of kennel name to each pup, but it's one way around it. It's been done in my breed.

Moonbroch you have a US flag by your name, are you in the US? Are you talking about UK or US KC?

I'm UK, don't know why that's happened. Will need to check my settings.

I'm having a nightmare because neither of us received paperwork when she was put into my name, it was supposed to be me soley but she's appearing as joint ownership on my KC account. I didn't notice this because she was missing for ages from my account when the new database was brought in. I can't do a change of ownership form because the unique ownership code I have is from her registration NOT the updated ownership so when input that I can't progress the form because it's not recognising it. It's outdated. So I'm totally stuck and need to talk to someone and can't.

As others have said register the litter with no affix in joint names.

Use the same letter of the alphabet for the first word so it keeps them associated together.

Then transfer the puppy your keeping into your sole name adding your affix.

Do the same for any of the others that are going to be shown or bred from, so they are associated with you if you wish.

When you got your bitches original registration certificate did you do the transfer of ownership into your sole name.
Did you pay for transfer of ownership.

I think what Brainless suggests is the best. You have to think about the new puppy owners, who should get their registrations with their puppies.
